"There is no pupil wellbeing, there's no pupil achievement, there's no pupil collaboration, there's no pupil collective responsibility, there's no pupil anything until the adults experience it first."
What is the other way?
There are schools that are taking a different path to achieve success. Their headteachers believe that high-stakes accountability, monitoring and micromanagement are destroying teachers' lives and the lives of the children they teach. They consider that the retention and recruitment crisis is a consequence of putting teachers under constant scrutiny and comparing results with other schools in league tables. At the root of the problem, these headteachers argue, is the Ofsted inspection regime and the damage it inflicts on teachers and schools in their attempt either to remain Outstanding or to strive to achieve it.
You will attend this conference because you are one of these headteachers.
The There is Another Way conference will give you the opportunity to walk an alternative path with colleagues who share their vision of leading a school with collaboration, heart and community at its core. The conference will be led by Jeremy Hannay, Headteacher of Three Bridges Primary School in Southall, West London. Jeremy coined the conference title There is Another Way and brings the maxim to life in the way his wonderful school, its teachers and its community learn and support one another each and every day.
During the conference, you will:
